We purchased this wood a couple of years ago
from a northern Vancouver Island bowl turner.
He was selling 20 blocks, sealed in bees wax for 30 years,
all with amazing rare and unique figures.
We weren't sure what we wanted to make with the blocks then,
but we couldn't resist, so we bought them all and just set them aside until now.
Most of these very beautiful maple blocks lent themselves
to bookmatched sets.
Because most of the blocks are quite thick we decided
to cut them into sequential slices of book matched figures.
