Greek Style Lamb

I
LOVE
Lamb Shanks.

I told Moe that Lamb shanks would be one of my top five favourite dinners, and he said that he would choose this meal as his last dinner.

Of course it didn't hurt that we shared a really good
Oregon Pinot Noir that went wonderful with the Lamb.

Basic Outline.

The shanks are browned first on top of the stove.
Then I add garlic cloves,
a couple of onions halved or quartered,
 oregano, salt and pepper,
the juice of a lemon and a splash of chicken broth.
Covered and cooked in the oven at 375°f.
When the lamb is almost done,
I add the potatoes to the pan and finished in the oven.

  1. Now that the busy school year is beginning for this teacher, I was looking at my loaded inbox and thinking. I have to stop getting so many emails. Cooking has been put on the back burner (Hah) now that the kids are gone and my husband has passed and I thought, I don't cook like I used to, how about this blog? I made the mistake of reading your comment but your husband's testimonial made me realize, I had to read this recipe and I am sending it along to my daugher and pinning it for me...when I am in the mood to cook.
Love your heading, recipes are meant to share. The best compliment is when people ask for the recipe. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Suzie, this is one of those meals that doesn't really require a recipe. The basics..... I always roast/braise lamb shanks. Done Greek style. The shanks are browned first on top of the stove. Then I add garlic cloves, a couple of onions halved or quartered, oregano, salt and pepper, the juice of a lemon and a splash of chicken broth. Covered and cooked in the oven at 375°f. When the lamb is almost done, I add the potatoes to the pan and finished in the oven.

I have a few other variations of lamb shanks on the blog. You might look at this recipe. One I've made for many years, using shanks or cubes of lamb.......http://www.thibeaultstable.com/2010/01/braised-lamb-shanks.html
